Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed

  • ½ cup granulated sugar

  • 2 large eggs, room temperature

  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 2 cups semi-sweet or dark chocolate chunks

  • Flaky sea salt, for sprinkling

Instructions

  • Cream butter and sugars – In a large bowl, beat butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy (about 3 minutes).

  • Add eggs and vanilla – Beat in the eggs one at a time, then add vanilla. Mix until smooth.

  • Combine dry ingredients – In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to wet mixture.

  • Fold in chocolate – Gently fold in chocolate chunks until evenly distributed.

  • Chill dough – Cover and chill for at least 1 hour (overnight for thicker cookies).

  • Shape & bake – Scoop large dough balls onto a parchment-lined tray. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 12–14 minutes until edges are golden but centers are soft.

  • Finish – Sprinkle with flaky sea salt and let cool on the tray for 5 minutes before transferring to a rack.

Notes

  • For ultra-thick cookies, don’t skip the chilling step.
