Ingredients
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
1 cup brown sugar, packed
½ cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs, room temperature
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
2 cups semi-sweet or dark chocolate chunks
Flaky sea salt, for sprinkling
Instructions
Cream butter and sugars – In a large bowl, beat butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy (about 3 minutes).
Add eggs and vanilla – Beat in the eggs one at a time, then add vanilla. Mix until smooth.
Combine dry ingredients – In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to wet mixture.
Fold in chocolate – Gently fold in chocolate chunks until evenly distributed.
Chill dough – Cover and chill for at least 1 hour (overnight for thicker cookies).
Shape & bake – Scoop large dough balls onto a parchment-lined tray. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 12–14 minutes until edges are golden but centers are soft.
Finish – Sprinkle with flaky sea salt and let cool on the tray for 5 minutes before transferring to a rack.
Notes
For ultra-thick cookies, don’t skip the chilling step.
Use high-quality chocolate chunks for a true bakery-style flavor.
Slightly underbake for gooey centers.
