2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
¾ cup granulated sugar
¾ cup packed brown sugar
2 large eggs
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
In a medium bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, and salt.
In a large bowl, cream butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla.
Gradually add dry ingredients into the wet mixture. Mix until just combined.
Fold in chocolate chips and walnuts (if using).
Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto ungreased baking sheets.
Bake for 9–11 minutes, until edges are golden brown but centers are soft.
Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 2 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Enjoy warm or store in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
Notes
For chewier cookies, slightly underbake and allow them to finish setting on the baking sheet.
For crispier cookies, bake a couple of extra minutes.
Dough can be refrigerated for up to 48 hours before baking for deeper flavor.
