- 8 cups day-old bread, cubed
- 1½ cups milk
- ½ cup heavy cream
- 4 large eggs
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup chocolate chips
- 2 tablespoons butter for greasing
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and generously butter a baking dish.
- Add the bread cubes to the dish and sprinkle chocolate chips evenly over the top.
- In a bowl, whisk together milk, cream, eggs, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt.
- Pour the mixture evenly over the bread and gently press to soak.
- Let rest 10 minutes or cover and refrigerate overnight.
- Bake uncovered for 40 minutes until golden and set.
- Rest 10 minutes before serving with powdered sugar and syrup.
Notes
For best results, use brioche or challah bread. This dish can be assembled the night before and baked in the morning. Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days and reheat gently.
