Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • ½ teaspoon baking powder

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

  • Optional: ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.

  • Cream butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar in a mixing bowl until fluffy.

  • Beat in eggs, one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.

  • In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.

  • Slowly mix dry ingredients into wet mixture until just combined.

  • Fold in chocolate chips (and nuts if using).

  • Scoop tablespoon-sized portions onto baking sheets, 2 inches apart.

  • Bake for 10–12 minutes, until edges are golden but centers look soft.
