Ingredients
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
½ cup packed light brown sugar
2 large eggs, room temperature
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
Optional: ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
Cream butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar in a mixing bowl until fluffy.
Beat in eggs, one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
Slowly mix dry ingredients into wet mixture until just combined.
Fold in chocolate chips (and nuts if using).
Scoop tablespoon-sized portions onto baking sheets, 2 inches apart.
Bake for 10–12 minutes, until edges are golden but centers look soft.
Cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
Notes
For extra crispy edges, chill dough for 30 minutes before baking.
Swap chocolate chips for dark chocolate chunks for a richer flavor.
Cookies stay fresh in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
