Ingredients

  • 500 g ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 800 g crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 400 g pasta
  • 1 cup reserved pasta water
  • Grated cheese, for serving

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat and cook the onion until soft and golden.
  2. Add the garlic and cook until fragrant.
  3. Add the ground beef, break it apart, and cook until browned.
  4. Season with salt and black pepper.
  5. Stir in tomato paste and cook for 1 minute.
  6. Add crushed tomatoes, oregano, and bay leaf.
  7. Lower heat and simmer for 30 minutes.
  8. Cook pasta in salted water until al dente.
  9. Add pasta to the sauce with some pasta water.
  10. Stir gently and cook together for 2–3 minutes.
  11. Serve warm with grated cheese.

Notes

Let the sauce simmer slowly for deeper flavor. You can freeze the sauce for up to 3 months. Add a splash of pasta water when reheating to loosen the sauce.
