Ingredients
- 4 large day-old croissants, torn into pieces
- 4 large eggs
- 1 1/2 cups whole milk
- 3/4 cup semi-sweet or dark chocolate, chopped or chips
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon butter, for greasing the dish
Instructions
- Butter a medium baking dish generously.
- Tear the croissants into rustic pieces and layer half of them into the dish.
- Sprinkle half of the chocolate over the croissants.
- Add the remaining croissants and finish with the rest of the chocolate.
- In a bowl, whisk eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
- Pour the custard evenly over the croissants, gently pressing them down.
- Let rest for 20 minutes or cover and refrigerate overnight.
- Preheat oven to 180°C / 350°F.
- Bake uncovered for 40 minutes until golden and set.
- Rest 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
Use day-old croissants for best texture. You can substitute milk with half-and-half for extra richness or plant-based milk if needed. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze individual portions.
