Description

This Chocolate Croissant Breakfast Casserole is a cozy, indulgent baked breakfast made with buttery croissants, rich chocolate, and a soft vanilla custard. Perfect for slow mornings, holidays, or make-ahead brunches, it fills the kitchen with warmth and brings everyone to the table with ease.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large day-old croissants, torn into pieces
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 3/4 cup semi-sweet or dark chocolate, chopped or chips
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon butter, for greasing the dish

Instructions

  1. Butter a medium baking dish generously.
  2. Tear the croissants into rustic pieces and layer half of them into the dish.
  3. Sprinkle half of the chocolate over the croissants.
  4. Add the remaining croissants and finish with the rest of the chocolate.
  5. In a bowl, whisk eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
  6. Pour the custard evenly over the croissants, gently pressing them down.
  7. Let rest for 20 minutes or cover and refrigerate overnight.
  8. Preheat oven to 180°C / 350°F.
  9. Bake uncovered for 40 minutes until golden and set.
  10. Rest 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Use day-old croissants for best texture. You can substitute milk with half-and-half for extra richness or plant-based milk if needed. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze individual portions.
