Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 ½ cups packed light brown sugar

  • 2 large eggs

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • ½ teaspoon baking powder

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

  • Optional: ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  • In a large bowl, cream butter and brown sugar until fluffy.

  • Add eggs one at a time, mixing well. Stir in vanilla.

  • In another bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to wet ingredients.

  • Fold in chocolate chips (and nuts if using).

  • Scoop tablespoon-sized dough onto baking sheet.

  • Bake 10–12 minutes until edges are golden but centers are soft.

  • Let cool 5 minutes before transferring to wire rack.

Notes

For extra chewiness, chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking.

Store cookies in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
