Ingredients
½ cup (115g) unsalted butter
½ cup (100g) brown sugar
¼ cup (50g) white sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon baking soda
¼ teaspoon salt
¾ cup (125g) semisweet chocolate chips
Optional Toppings:
Vanilla ice cream
Sea salt flakes
Instructions
Melt the Butter: In an oven-safe 8–10 inch skillet, melt the butter over low heat until smooth and golden. Remove from heat and cool slightly.
Mix Wet Ingredients: Add both sugars to the melted butter, then stir in the egg and vanilla until glossy and smooth.
Add Dry Ingredients: Stir in flour, baking soda, and salt until just combined. Do not overmix.
Fold in Chocolate Chips: Gently fold in the chocolate chips evenly throughout the dough.
Bake: Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 8–10 minutes, or cook covered on the stove for 8–10 minutes.
Serve: Let cool slightly, then serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a sprinkle of sea salt.
Notes
Use a cast iron skillet for even baking and crispy edges.
For an extra gooey center, slightly underbake the cookie.
Add chopped nuts, white chocolate chips, or caramel bits for variations.
This cookie is best enjoyed fresh from the skillet but can be reheated in the microwave for 20 seconds.
